I am Managing Editor of Humber Press at the Office of Research & Innovation at Humber College. With a career that spans 25+ years, I possess excellent organizational and people skills built over interaction with multi-cultural peers. The values of purpose, inclusivity and collaboration drive me.

I am a real estate investor and a Management Consultant (Diversity and Equity). I am also on radio speaking on issues related to immigration and helping new immigrants settle. I am passionate about helping new immigrants soar in Canada.

I am very passionate about helping new immigrants find their footing in the Digital Marketing space in Canada. When I landed in Canada and started applying for jobs, I was very surprised at how different the digital marketing practice is in Canada compared to my home country.

Now having been in Canada for 4+ years and with the experience of 2 major banks under my belt, I’m happy to pass on my learning and insight on this field to any immigrant looking to make a career in Digital Marketing in this country.

Personally, I believe in the phrase “pay it forward” – numerous immigrants (and Canadians) helped me when I landed here and I am humbled to be in a position now where I can do the same for others coming into the country. In 2020 (mid-pandemic), Gurpreet moved to Vancouver, Canada from Bombay, India – a decision she calls her best one to date.

Gurpreet grew up surrounded by people from diverse and interesting cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Her love for storytelling and creating social impact, inspired her to pursue a Masters in International Broadcast Journalism from the UK, and a Specialization in ‘Business Strategies for a Better World’ from Wharton.
Currently, she works at the Canadian Red Cross as their Senior Communications Advisor for B.C. & Yukon. She looks forward to supporting newcomers and immigrants who choose to make Canada their new home.

After a few months of my landing here as an immigrant, I understood that I needed to change my strategies and readjust myself. I was fortunate enough to come across with the like minded people who motivated me and helped me to transform myself into a more suitable candidate. Nick Noorani, I call him Gem Star, is one of those people. Being an ambassador, I wanted to help newcomers to understand about the job market in Canada, especially the Engineering sector. I always believe that awareness is the best step to begin with, after the self-realization an immigrant can explore their true potential by re-discovering their beliefs and inner talent. Once a person knows about his or her potential, everything is achievable. So like Nick, I also believe “Networking to get working!”

Rakhee Gehani believes that everyone is capable of succeeding in their careers.Rakhee earned a Masters of Human Resources degree from the University of Regina, SK, Canada in 2021. Additionally, she holds CPHR and SHRM-Senior Certified Professional certifications. Currently based in Saskatchewan, Rakhee works for an educational institution as a Human Resources Professional. As an HR professional with more than a decade of experience, Rakhee has helped many people succeed in their careers. She provides a variety of services such as boosting confidence, enhancing skills, assisting with job search strategies, preparing for interviews, and writing resumes. Further, Rakhee provides a wide range of premium services for HR professionals, including preparation for the CPHR-NKE exam, validation of experience, career counseling, and STAR-based interview preparation.

I have several years of experience in Human Resources, and I am ready to make a difference in the Canadian Human Resources world.

Rishin came to Canada in 2018. From starting his career here by giving out Uber Eats coupons at a corner of a park he is now a National Brand Manager for a reputed Canadian alcobev company.

As a visible minority immigrant Rishin has had his fair share of struggles and feels that much of the issues plaguing immigrants can be solved with empathy. He understands the roadblocks that immigrants face in establishing their professional careers in Canada. His no holds barred, single minded approach towards driving success for immigrants has been widely appreciated.

He is an Immigrant Networks ambassador because, in his own words, “Being an immigrant myself I understand the challenges new immigrants face in their early days in Canada and I want to shorten their learning curves/reduce their hardship incidences.”

I landed in Canada 15 days before the worldwide lockdowns were imposed due to Covid. As an immigrant, I wish I would have received an appropriate and sincere assistance from a mentor, especially during those unprecedented times. I joined immigrant networks as I was trying to lead a much smaller initiative: Untapped and discovered the existence of this amazing organization with like-minded individuals that is taking action and helping immigrants at the grass-root level.

As soon as I arrived, I started looking for opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals and fellow immigrants, so I came across immigrant networks. I registered and through the matching process, I started e-meeting with immigrants settled in different parts of the country, exchanging advices and sharing experiences. Since then, it has been a great consistent learning experience both at personal and professional level. Immigrant networks has been one of the pivotal pillars in my settlement journey in Canada.

I came to Canada as a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow at the University of British Columbia. Veering from the professorial track when I became a mother, I crossed over from academia to the non-profit sector and found fulfillment providing employment support to immigrant women in tech. As past president of the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST), I have strongly championed for raising the visibility and amplifying the voice of racialized women as part of my advocacy for inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism.

empowered.

Anna Garleff

Anna is an Organizational Psychologist and Executive Coach. She is the former Director of the Open University (UK) operations in Germany. Anna works with C-Suite leaders, and is the co-founder of two major centres of excellence, as well as a successful nonprofit. She is known for her ability to identify and leverage clients’ unique talent profiles, and guide diverse stakeholders in complex socio-political and technical landscapes. Anna has lived and worked in a number of countries around the world, learning languages from the ground up, raising a child in a foreign culture, and going through harrowing immigration processes. None were as difficult as repatriating to Canada, and this is why she she spends so much of her time helping newcomers.

I came to Canada in 2018 under the Express Entry program. Originally from Mexico, I have built a career in technical B2B sales, marketing, and product management. Immigrant Networks has helped me network with and assist fellow immigrants. I have learned from some and shared advice with others about the journey of settling in this great new home, Canada. I’m honoured to be an Immigrant Networks Ambassador and be able to pay it forward to make other immigrants journey easier.

Luna Daniel

I have worked as a talent acquisition specialist and as a HR professional for over a decade across India, Australia and Canada- the roles were across  agencies , corporates and startups in the healthcare, government, IT, consulting and fintech industry.  I have also been working as a coach (unofficially for new immigrants in my free time) and also teach in a B-School where I coach students on best practices for interviewing, managing self and other topics that help one assimilate better in a new country.

My lived experiences- moving 3 countries in less than 10 years- has given me insights into the things to keep in mind professionally and personally to cope with stress and also manage oneself when moving to a new country. I would like to pay-it-forward. As a new immigrant I once faced similar challenges and would like to share my experiences and learnings and also establish a symbiotic relationship as my  experience has given me a holistic understanding from both employer and talent perspectives and the shifting needs in the market.
